In a battle where smashes flew across the court, the College of Education (CED) Titans’ Sofia Denese Moster and the College of Medicine’s (CM) Jermaine Velasquez stood out in a thrilling women’s badminton opener, igniting early action at the Rajah Sulayman Gymnasium on February 28.
Stepping onto the court for the first match, CED Titans’ Sofia Denese Moster squares off against College of Business Administration (CBA) Jaguars’ Jonna Agito in a battle that showcases both strength and agility.
Right from the first serve of the opening set, Moster quickly took control with powerful clears and precise drop shots that forced Agito to chase every shuttle across the court. Despite Agito's quick reactions to attack open shots, Moster secured the set at 21–15.
The second set grew more intense as Agito fought to claw back into the match by chasing difficult shots and sustaining long rallies. Still, Moster’s composure held firm as she delivered crucial points in the closing exchanges, sealing the match with a 21–19 finish, securing victory in straight sets.
Following the opening match, the College of Public Administration (CPA) Lions pounced as Angelica Gonzales faced off CM’s Jermaine Velasquez in the second game of women’s badminton.
Gonzales opened the first set showing Lions’ aggressiveness to dominate early rallies, but Velasquez answered with calm precision and strategic shot placement, forcing her opponent to difficult positions, eventually taking the opening set (21–13).
Heading into the second set, Gonzales tried to rally back with determination, yet Velasquez maintained her steady rhythm with controlled clears and sharp drop shots, sealing CM’s straight-set victory, 21–13.
With early victories already claimed, the court is set for more edge-of-your-seat action as colleges battle for badminton supremacy.
