Vice President Sara Duterte announces her bid for the 2028 presidential elections, Feb. 18.

“Ako si Sara Duterte, tatakbo bilang pangulo ng Pilipinas (I am Sara Duterte, I will run for president of the Philippines),” she proclaims during a press conference at the Office of the Vice President headquarters in Mandaluyong City.

In her speech, she also apologized for teaming up with former UniTeam ally, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., during the 2022 presidential elections, which resulted in their landslide victory.

“Mga kababayan, humihingi ako ng paumanhin sa inyong lahat. Patawad kung tinulungan kong mahalal si BBM bilang Pangulo ng ating bansa,” she said.

VP Duterte also said she cannot kneel down to every Filipino to ask for forgiveness; instead, she will offer her life, strength, and future for the service of the nation.

Her speech also confirms speculations of her breaking her coalition with the President.

The Vice President claimed that since the early months of administration, she has been questioning the President’s lack of integrity in governance.

VP Duterte also accused President Marcos of alleged corruption and failure to fulfill commitments made during their alliance.

Her speech further blames the President for rising prices of goods, continued flooding, poor healthcare systems, weak infrastructure, and the increase of crime, illegal drugs, and terrorism.

Meanwhile, the fourth impeachment complaint against VP Duterte was also filed on the same day.

Lawyer Nathaniel Cabrera filed the complaint against the VP at the Office of House Secretary General, Cheloy Garafil, due to her threats towards officials, including President Marcos.

The complaint also alleges misuse of confidential funds, non-declaration of her assets, abuse of power, and bribery. Deputy Speaker Paolo Ortega V and Manila Rep. Bienvenido Abante Jr. further endorsed the said complaint.
