Pres. Sonny welcomes Haribons in this year’s freshmen orientation

Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) President Atty. Domingo “Sonny” Reyes Jr. officially welcomed this year’s freshmen students on the first day of the freshmen orientation held at the Justo Albert Auditorium on Thursday, Aug. 28.
President Sonny expressed his gratitude towards the students for choosing the university while also reminding them of their privilege.
“Everyday, I receive thousands of appeals to be accepted. So please, be thankful and appreciate the blessings that you are given to be part of this academic institution,” he said in his speech.
The president also challenged the freshmen to continue the “tradition of academic excellence” as the university has been producing topnotchers throughout the years, being known to be a “center of excellence.”
He also reminded them to be cautious of what they post and share on social media, particularly on the Facebook group “Tambayan ng mga Malulungkot na Haribons,” simply known as Tambayan.
“Please remember also that this is a public university. This is not a private university. [As] much as we are trying our best to provide you with the best equipment and facilities that are available for us, we cannot. There will always be constraints and limitations in the many areas of the university. But nonetheless, we are giving you at least, the minimum, basic,” he said.
Moreover, President Sonny announced his administration's intentions to strengthen international relations, revealing that they have already signed a memorandum of agreement with several international schools from other countries such as Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Canada.
“It is important for you to have global and international exposure. That’s why we are now trying to develop more international linkages where we can send students abroad,” he stated.
The four-day orientation for freshmen, spearheaded by the Office of Student Development and Services, introduced the several departments and officials of the university and is set to culminate on September 2.
