PLM mock elections record low voter turnout; only 5 colleges reach ‘successful’ mark

The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila Student Commission on Elections (PLM COMELEC) released the results of its 2026 mock elections on Apr. 11, revealing a decline in student participation ahead of the upcoming Supreme Student Council (SSC) and College Student Council (CSC) polls.

A total of 2,196 students took part in the mock exercise out of 9,652 eligible voters, equivalent to a 22.75% voter turnout. This figure falls short compared to last year’s 24.96% turnout, where 2,988 out of 11,972 students participated.

Only five colleges attained the Commission’s “successful election” benchmark of at least 25% voter turnout. These include the College of Business Administration (CBA), College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (CHASS), College of Nursing (CN), College of Public Administration (CPA), and the College of Science (CS). The remaining colleges failed to meet the required threshold.

The mock election, conducted annually, serves as a preparatory activity to test electoral systems and gauge student engagement prior to the official university-wide elections.

Despite the dip in turnout, the Commission urged students to take a more active role in campus democratic processes, emphasizing that participation is vital in strengthening student representation and accountability within the university.

Students who have yet to be assigned to their respective precincts or who have concerns regarding cluster assignments were advised to coordinate with PLM COMELEC through their official communication channels.

With the SSC and CSC elections approaching, the Commission continues to call on the student body to exercise their right to vote and contribute to a more participatory and responsive campus governance.
