On its second day of the five-day celebration, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) commenced a series of games, a thanksgiving mass, an employee service awards rites, and a special guesting of the Wish 107.5 bus with its guest Filipino alternative rock band, Mayonnaise, June 19.

As early as 9AM, the PLM Supreme Student Council (SSC) opened Day 2 of the celebration with a series of Carnival Games such as Strongman Tug, Dodgeball, and Trip to Jerusalem, where all students of the university were encouraged to participate.

The activity narrowed down to  five (5) participating colleges namely: College of Accountancy, College of Business Administration, College of Education, College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences; and College of Engineering competed for the top three awards: Overall Champion and 1st and 2nd Runners-Up.

According to Edwin Espinas, head of the Founding Anniversary’s Student Activities, this celebration marks another year of fulfilling “manifestations and excellence” to be met in the succeeding years from its students and every individual in the university.

“Sana through this founding anniversary natin is we are able to have everyone be included and feel na this event is for them and that they are being part of the entirety of this celebration,” he added.

While the students were enjoying a fun under the sun at the Tanghalang Bayan, several staff and faculty members observed a moment of spiritual soliloquy at the university chapel for the Thanksgiving Mass headed by Rev. Fr. Christian “Toots” Buenafe, OCarm.

In his homily, Rev. Fr. Buenafe, OCarm., said “Kung ano ang atin ngayon, ng present generation, dahil ‘yon sa pagsisikap ng mga nauna sa atin”

He also emphasized that there is a higher calling for the institution to not only train students professionally but also produce persons with integrity and honesty among others.

After the mass, all employees of PLM feasted on lunch at the University Activity Center (UAC) followed by the Program on Recognition of Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence (PRAISE) Awards at the Justo Albert Auditorium for employees and faculty members for their service tenure.

The highlight of the celebration arrived around three in the afternoon as the Wish 107.5 bus parked near the UAC with guest band, Mayonnaise. Students surrounded the bus to catch the performance of the 2004 Red Horse Muziklaban grand winner.

Among the setlist was the iconic “Jopay” which was adored by Haribons.

Aside from the Day 2 celebration, the same day marks the signing of Republic Act 4196 or the “An Act Authorizing the City of Manila to Establish and Operate the University of the City of Manila and for Other Purposes”, otherwise known as the “PLM Charter” in which  President Diosdado Macapagal signed 59 years ago.
