PLM honors Haribons at 2026 University Recognition

Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) honored outstanding students, student councils, and organizations during the 2026 University Recognition - Gawad Haribon at the Justo Albert Auditorium (JAA), Aug. 14.

With the theme “Mga Makabagong Pantas Taglay ang Karunungan Tungo sa Kadakilaan at Kaunlaran,” the ceremony underscored academic excellence, leadership, and service among members of the PLM community.

This year’s Rizal Student Excellence Award was conferred on John Harvey D. Antonio, a graduating Bachelor of Science in Information Technology student from the College of Information Systems and Technology Management (CISTM). He also served as the President of both the CISTM Student Council and the PLM Society of Information and Technology Enthusiasts (SITE).

Antonio, who is also a recipient of the Student Excellence Award and recognized as a civic extension volunteer, reflected on his journey as a scholar in his student response and emphasized that true success is found in being steadfast in service.

“Tandaan natin na ang tunay na tagumpay ng isang pantas ay wala sa kawalan ng hirap, kundi sa katatagang magpatuloy at maglingkod kahit mahirap. Huwag na huwag nating kakalimutan kung bakit at para kanino tayo nagsimula,” he said.

PLM President Domingo “Sonny” Y. Reyes led the awarding of medals and certificates, together with Dr. Dan Michael A. Cortez, PLM’s Vice President for Research, Academic, and Extension Services (VPRAES) and the 2026 Ad Hoc Chairperson for Graduation and Recognition.

In his welcoming remarks, Pres. Reyes emphasized the resilience of Haribons, noting that life’s journey is never perfect and that even the most accomplished leaders and writers encounter mistakes as they remain integral to the human experience.

He reminded students that obstacles and detractors are inevitable, “I-consider niyo ‘yan as just sandpapers of your life. Papel de liha that smoothens your rough edges because in the end, you will all prevail.”

The recognition included the College Academic Excellence Award, Board Topnotcher Award, Student Achiever Award, and Student Excellence Award. Outstanding academic and non-academic organizations were also awarded along with their advisers.

Ten colleges were recognized for Outstanding Student Councils which includes the College of Accountancy (CA), College of Architecture and Sustainable Built Environment (CASBE), College of Business Administration (CBA), College of Education (CED), College of Engineering (CE), College of Information Systems and Technology Management (CISTM), College of Nursing (CN), College of Physical Therapy (CPT), College of Public Administration (CPA), and College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM).

Dr. Cortez urged the awardees to remain grounded despite their achievements in his closing remarks.

“Enjoy this moment, be proud, pero manatiling humble. Dalhin ninyo ang pagkilalang ito bilang motivation para lalo po kayong magsikap,” he said.
