PLM College of Education (CED), along with the PLM Cadet Teachers Organization conducted its annual pinning ceremony of practice teachers with the theme “From Sparks to Starlight: Empowering Aspiring Teachers to Illuminate the Future”, at the Aliw Theater, Pasay City, Jan. 29.

The event began with a processional march of 4th year students from the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education, Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of Physical Education, Bachelor of Special Needs Education, and Bachelor of Secondary Education (Major in English, Mathematics, Filipino, Sciences, and Social Studies).

Dr. Jimmy Romero, the College Dean, delivered the opening remarks, congratulating the students for the milestones they achieved.

PLM President Atty. Domingo Reyes, Jr. also gave a heartfelt speech, highlighting the country’s current state of education.

“Our Filipino students are lagging or behind around 45 years in expectancy literacy. This is a serious problem; why are we lagging behind?... This is a validation of what our education is today. This further validates the seeming dismal performance of Philippine education in international competition and standards. We are at the bottom,” Pres. Reyes said.

He also discussed the country’s lack of appointed principals, with over 25,000 public schools operating without one, among other relevant national issues, ultimately encouraging the future educators to forge a brighter path for the country as the Lord’s emissaries.

Guest speaker Dr. Ronald Vincent R. Salva, Public Schools District Supervisor, delivered an inspirational speech which highlights the sacrifices and importance of teachers in the society.

“Tandaan, ang inyong pag-aalay ng buhay at pagod para sa pagtuturo ay isang magandang paraan ng pagpapakita ng pagmamahal sa ating bayan… ang pagiging guro ang isa sa pinakamahalagang desisyon at nagbibigay ng kahulugan sa inyong buhay. Magsilbi kayong liwanag sa mga bata at kabataan na nalulukuban ng kamangmangan at hirap ng buhay,” said Dr. Salva.

PLM CTO President Evander Buenaflor led the oath-taking, followed by closing remarks of Prof. Anna Gloria E. Saplala, Associate Dean and Chairperson of Department of Teacher Education.

Nearly 600 student teachers of class 2025 were awarded their pins and began their internship after the ceremony.
