The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) Alumni Association and Scholars Foundation Inc. (PLMSFI) organized a book launch event at the University Library on Monday, June 15.
During the event, Dr. Fernando B. Perfas, a Haribon Awardee and PLM Class of 1967 alumnus, discussed the synopsis, structure, and reviews of his books, “Land of the Mourning” and “The Accidental Therapist.”
Land of the Mourning is a coming-of-age story told through the love letters of two teenage sweethearts. It follows a young boy whose life changes after the death of his father, leading his family to move from a small village in Bicol to the slums of Tondo, Manila. The book highlights the struggles of poverty and the challenges of growing up in a difficult environment.
Meanwhile, The Accidental Therapist is a memoir about the author's journey through college, work, and life abroad. It tells how he overcame financial difficulties and career challenges through hard work, perseverance, and faith, eventually achieving his dreams.
PLMSFI scholars, faculty members, and alumni attended the event and engaged in a Q&A session with Dr. Perfas about his books and life journey. The book launch was a part of the celebration of the university’s 61st Founding Anniversary.
