PLM allows use of lived names in 58th commencement exercises

Graduating students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) may now use their lived names during the university’s 58th Commencement Exercises after the administration approved a request advocating for more inclusive graduation rites. 

The initiative, stemmed from a proposal of the previous PLM Supreme Student Council (SSC) administration, which sought to recognize and affirm the identities of graduating students during the ceremony.

Students who wish to use their lived names must submit a Conforme Form, with only hard copy submissions to be accepted, along with the required supporting documents, to their respective College Student Councils (CSCs) no later than Aug. 7, 12 PM. 

According to the guidelines, the lived name must follow the format: SURNAME, GIVEN NAME “LIVED NAME” MIDDLE NAME. Students who fail to submit the required documents within the deadline will have their registered names reflected in all commencement materials.

The university also stated that it will not process forms with incomplete requirements or falsified signatures and will not not extend the submission deadline.

The CSCs will consolidate all submissions before endorsing them to the PLM SSC, which will then forward the requests to the Office of Student Development and Services (OSDS) for processing.

As of this posting, PLM has yet to release an official university announcement regarding the implementation of the policy.
