Over 4,330 Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila graduates have been conferred their respective degrees during the 56th Commencement Exercises at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Sept. 4-6.

According to the Office of the Chairman, Board of Regents (BOR), 2,620+ students graduated with Latin honors: 109 are summa cum laude; 1,256 are magna cum laude; and 1,258 are cum laude.

The ceremony was attended by University President Atty. Domingo Y. Reyes, BOR Chairperson Atty. Edward Serapio, BOR members, college deans, faculty, parents, and guests of honor.

Distinguished professionals delivered their inspirational message to the students, namely, Dr. Conrado E. Inigo Jr., University President of the University of Visayas-Cebu City; Wilma V. Galvante, PLM BOR Member and MTRCB Board Member; Atty. Nora M. Malubay, CPA, former executive Vice President Government Services Insurance System (GSIS); Ar. Christopher C. Dela Cruz, Chief Executive Officer, Philippine Green Building Council; and Dr. Reynaldo R. Rey Matias, Secretary General of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine.

The university also conferred an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws Honoris Causa to one of its guest speakers, Associate Justice Jhosep Ylarde Lopez of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, who is also a former city councilor and faculty member at the PLM College of Law.

“You have the power to make a positive impact, to uplift others, and to contribute to the greater good. Go forth with the commitment to justice, integrity, and excellence. Let them guide your actions, form your decisions, and shape your character,” the Associate Justice said.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo-Nieto also graced the graduation rites.

“Anuman ang direksyon na inyong tatahakin paglabas ng Pamantasan, palagi lang niyong isaalang-alang na maging mabuting tao, maging responsableng mamamayan, at mapagmalasakit sa pamilya, sa kapwa, at sa bayan,” Lacuna stated.

Selected students from different colleges also shared their responses about their fruitful stay at the Pamantasan.

“Don't allow yourself to live a life where you fail by default simply because you never tried. Let us thank everyone who encourages us to always keep trying and who is always there to push us some more when we feel like giving up,” Kimberly Melissa G. Domingo, a summa cum laude graduate of the Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English, said.

The Graduation Rites print-out will be available at the University Activity Center (UAC) on Sept. 19-21 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
