Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso discussed the city’s livable housing and urban redevelopment initiatives during the weekly Kapihan sa Manila Prince forum, July 29. 

Amid the discussion, the publication sought Mayor Moreno’s comment on the condition of Banana Island residents in Intramuros, facing resettlement in Morong, Rizal following reports of substandard housing.

Moreno said the city opposes relocating informal settlers without a proper and decent in-city housing alternative.

"I for one, is not—hindi ako supporter ng pagtatapon [relocation], unless it is viable. Ibig sabihin talaga may tubig, may kuryente, may access to basic [needs]—ako, preferred ko lagi in-city…Makikita mo kami dyan, hindi kami supporter na tanggalin sila. Until there is proper and decent alternative, that we will agree." 

Former Senator Atty. Joey Lina and former Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma moderated the forum, where they also discussed the city government’s healthcare, youth and senior citizen programs, and peace and order initiatives.
