"Hindi ako kapit-tuko sa posisyon."

President Emmanuel Leyco asserts that his position is not the main issue and mentioned resignation if debts to the Pamantasan will be paid based on an update posted by the Supreme Student Council (SSC), Aug. 31.

In a meeting earlier today, the SSC and University officials discussed the plans and actions ‘once again’ on the issue of the Pamantasan with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in relation to the Free Tertiary Education under the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UniFAST) and other student concerns.

“Parang anlaki ng kasalanan ko sa Pamantasan. Naningil ba tayo ng tuition? Kung ang UP, sunod-sunod, walang Doctorate, [at] ‘di hiningi ng batas? Anong pinagkaiba nun’ sa PLM? Parehong batas ang nagtayo sa atin,” Leyco said based on the updates of the council.

According to the SSC, Leyco insisted that his position is not the main issue of concern with CHED. “He added that if CHED pays their debts to PLM, he will resign as PLM President,” the council reported while pertaining to Leyco.

In an interview with The Big Story on One News PH on Aug. 31, the University President said that the commission still owes the Pamantasan in the amount of Php 134 million last academic year. He added that the University will be submitting “something like” Php 340 million for reimbursement this academic year.

Last January, the University submitted a new tuition fee schedule of Php 1,200 per unit “to make PLM feasible.”

“So instead of addressing that issue, here comes a memo saying that PLM is not compliant. We don’t believe that,” Leyco said in the interview.

Ang Pamantasan was not invited to the said meeting.

This is a developing story.
