After more than five decades, the PLM College of Nursing (CN) honored its pioneer batch in a heartfelt tribute held at the PLM Library Circulation Area, June 20, as part of the university’s 60th founding anniversary celebration.
In his welcome remarks, University President Atty. Domingo “Sonny” Y. Reyes described the pioneer batch as “starters of a journey,” expressing deep gratitude for their sacrifices and trailblazing spirit. He emphasized that their dedication laid the foundation for the global recognition PLM nurses receive today, citing their consistently strong performance in the Philippine Nursing Licensure Exams.
“You will forever be a part of our history,” he added as the event embraced the theme: “Bridging the Past into the Present: Guided by Legacy, Driven by Service.”
Recreating the traditional capping and pinning ceremony, the college gave its alumni the full experience; complete with the sighting of the Lady with the Lamp and individual pinning. This revived a symbolic rite which turned into a ceremony that honored the decades of service, resilience, and excellence embodied by the first graduates, whose efforts helped build the PLM Nursing legacy.
Among those recognized was Ms. Rosalina Taguiam-Palad, a PLM alumna who ranked 9th in the April 1975 Philippine Nursing Licensure Examination, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the university, sharing that the education they received at PLM gave them “a chance at a better life.”
The ceremony also became a moment of remembrance for former Dean Mary Vita Jackson (MVJ), with alumni offering praise to her tireless commitment to her students and her profound influence on the college, an impact still felt decades later.
