FILMayer 2024 grants best production, performance awards for film festival entries

Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (CHASS), together with the FILMayer 2024 Organizing Committee presented best production and performance awards for the festival awards day at the Justo Albert Auditorium, June 8. 

The festival featured productions by fourth-year Communication students, including AbanTake Productions, Dalayday Productions, Dorothy Productions, Four Walls Motion Picture, Inari Productions, Kusine Films, Sangandaan Productions, Serafilm Production, Route 5 Productions, and Pawid Productions. 

Out of ten short film entries, "Tara, G!" by Route 5 Productions was awarded as the Best Picture. On the other hand, "Alamat ng Isdang Kulay Bahaghari" by Dalayday Productions secured second place, followed by "Para Po!" by Sangandaan Productions in third, and "Evangeline" by Serafilm Productions in fourth.

In the Production Category, Dalayday Productions secured five awards, including Best Cinematography by Dean Joseph Palapar, and Best Musical Score with Charlotte Mei Quintana. The Production also won Best Visual Effects by Avin Dela Cruz, Best Location with Aldrid Arenas and Cathy Abendanio, and Best Costume Design by Sophia Mendoza and Sherina Agoncillo. 

Following closely, Sangandaan Productions also bagged five awards with Jaed Ababao winning Best Director and Best Editing; Chloe Ysabel Mangabat, Erick Cabuang, Kenneth Manikan and Mariah Ang who secured the Best Screenplay; Coleen Alvarez and Czyrene Ysabele Ay-ay who won Best Sound Design; and achieved Best Theme Song “Hipnotismo,” which was performed by Alyanna Ambrosio and Rosh Pascual. 

Kusine Films was awarded Best Production Design by Aira Janella Manabat and Best Makeup by Eliza Ann Masa and Justine Mercader. 

On the other hand, AbanTake Productions was awarded as Best Poster by Katherine Palang.

In the Performance Category, AJ Benoza from "Tara, G!" by Route 5 Productions won Best Actor, while Chase Salazar from "Overnight Stay" by Four Walls Motion Picture was awarded Best Actress. In addition, Adrian Labior from "Para Po!" by Sangandaan Productions received Best Supporting Actor, and Trisha Mae Baul from "Absolusyon" by AbanTake Productions won Best Supporting Actress. Lastly, Lucas Martin from "Alamat ng Isdang Kulay Bahaghari" by Dalayday Productions was recognized as the Best Child Performer.

As a special award, Ken Joshua De Paula and Rosewiel Gien Rubin were honored as the Male and Female Stars of the Day. 

Department Chairperson Prof. Maychell Jastia concluded the event by congratulating and applauding all productions for their efforts. 

“This event may be short but it has a lifelong effect on all of you, sweet. To all those who won today, it is a sweet reward for all of your hard work. Therefore, I will now officially pronounce FILMayer: PLM festival of films officially closed,” she said. 

These short film entries were under the supervision of Film Writing and Production instructors, Prof. Ayen Bayani and Prof. David Ramos Jr.
