Cardinals Jose Fuerte Advincula, Jr. and Luis Antonio Tagle, together with Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Domagoso, led the celebration for the proclamation of Nuestra Señora de la Consolación y Correa as Patroness of Intramuros, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of her Canonical Coronation at San Agustin Church, Sept. 14.
The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by His Eminence Jose Fuerte Cardinal Advincula Jr., D.D., Archbishop of Manila and Papal Legate, with His Eminence Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle, D.D., Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, delivering the homily. The solemn mass was concelebrated by friars of the Augustinian Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus.
Messages of gratitude were delivered by Mayor Isko, who served as Hermano Mayor and led the Act of Consecration. Very Rev. Fr. Edwin Hari, O.S.A., Rector of the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, also gave his message, while Manila Vice Mayor Chi Atienza expressed her support for the event.
In his homily, Cardinal Tagle underscored the significance of consolation as a mission rooted in God’s action, “Consolation is not just a sentiment, it is not just a feeling that we try to impart to others, it is a mission, a mission received from the Lord, which is therefore, God’s action.”
The proclamation was made official through Augustinian Protocol No. 157, Series of 2023, which decrees that the feast of Our Lady of Consolation will be celebrated annually every second Sunday of September at San Agustin Church.
Following the Eucharistic celebration, a solemn procession was held, carrying the image of Our Lady of Consolation together with other Augustinian saints through the streets of Intramuros.
Prior to the holy mass, the celebration also featured the Intramuros Food Festival 2025, organized in collaboration with local barangays 654 to 658. Families and devotees shared traditional Filipino dishes, symbolizing community unity and thanksgiving.
The second Fiesta de Intramuros was made possible through the collaboration of the Manila City Government, Intramuros Administration, Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Tourism, Culture and Arts of Manila (DTCAM), Manila Bulletin, and Converge FiberX.
