In support of higher education institutions in the city, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan approved City Ordinance No. 9068, granting a ₱2,000 cash gift to graduates of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) and Universidad de Manila (UDM), Aug. 29.

The ordinance, also known as the "Taas-Noo Manileño Graduation Gift Ordinance 2024," was created in recognition of the vital role of the youth in society and nation-building. It aims to provide cash gifts to UDM and PLM graduates, effective starting this Academic Year 2023-2024.

Section 4 of the ordinance outlines the requirements for graduates to avail themselves of the cash gift. The graduate must be a duly enrolled student in good standing at either PLM or UDM, a bona fide resident and registered voter of the City of Manila, and eligible for the ₱1,000 Social Amelioration Program (SAP) provided monthly by the Manila LGU. Lastly, the student must be an official graduate of either institution.

Councilor Pamela Fugoso-Pascual and Majority Floor Leader Councilor Ernesto C. Isip Jr. are the principal authors of this ordinance.

PLM’s Board of Regents recently approved the graduation of over 4,330 students this year, with 60%, or approximately 2,620 students, set to graduate with Latin honors.
